The technology that we take for granted started with a partnership between the horse and humankind well over 6,500 years ago. They have served us faithfully, with gentle humility and great courage. There is a responsibility to recognize that sacred contract and to honor the horse. (Horses An Illustrated Treasury by Michelle Lovric) We owe the nonhuman world, and the horse in particular, a debt of gratitude.
At Another Way, we study the evolution of the horse, then move to the anatomy and physiology, and equine communication. We study basic ground work begining with tack, saddling, and bridling; and mounting and dismounting using a fixed stand and mounting block.
The equestrian program complements the children’s study of Natural and Human history through the Montessori Time Lines. Children come to recognize that the development and spread of human civilization was closely linked to the partnership between horse and man until about one century ago.
The horse today remains a great teacher and friend to the human race. Teaching the ancient relationship opens a window through history that engages the child, while learning respect and responsibility for this great animal increases the child’s emotional maturity and compassion.
Riding lessons are a scheduled part of the daily experience. As the children develop their riding skills, they will have more frequent riding oppertunities.
Private riding lessons may be arranged Monday through Thursday as weather allows. Please contact us to schedule lessons.
