At Another Way, the role of the adult is to facilitate each child's development by being the dynamic link between the Child and the Environment. The teacher must know the entire curriculum in order to prepare the environment - to provide the child with materials and experiences that awaken the consciousness and fire a passion for life and learning. The teacher is not the focus of attention; the child is not expected to meet the "average" or "mean" of the teacher.

Dick James, Living History

    Dick James is a CPA and a charter member of the Mountain Man Society. For over 60 years, Dick has studied American Indian, Colonial and Mountain Man history, lore and skills. He was instrumental in starting the Mountain Man Rendezvous in Utah and in Wyoming. He is a master of many of the old skills and knowledgeable about the old ways. Dick brings his knowledge and expertise to directing the Living History program for 6-12 year olds.

    Dick has advised and helped create many of the historical sites in Utah and Wyoming dedicated to the knowledge of the old west and its peoples as well as giving workshops throughout the country. A consultant to many historical programs and master storyteller, Dick is treasure who children, parents and staff deeply enjoy.

Kathleen Haynes, Music and Creative Movement

Kathleen Haynes, M.A., originally from New York City, is a former Artist-in-Residence at Jeremy Ranch and Parley's Park Elementary Schools. She has both a Bachelors and a Masters Degree in dance and has performed with modern dance companies in this country and abroad. She is a certified Orff Schulewerk music instructor and has been teaching for over 20 years, currently in Park City and Salt Lake City.


Harriet Stephens, Pony Club and Equestrian Training

One of the early founders of the National Abilities Center, Harriet Stephens teaches the Pony Club program at Another Way. Designed as a comprehensive educational program, Pony Club teaches riding, mounted sports, tack, equine anatomy, safety, and the care of horses and ponies. Harriet was also a National level competitor in Hunter Jumper. Her extensive background in Pony Club makes her a wonderful addition to Another Way.


Emery George, Living History

Emery George is a mathematician, electrician, historical craftsman, and mountain man with extensive expertise in the old skills. He is an award winning Dutch oven master and a teacher with a Montessori background; to mention just a few of his many and varied areas of expertise. He assists in the Living History program as scheduled, and contributes in the preprimary classroom environment.
